Small Steps – Big Results
Some of you’ve been saying, “These newsletters were so sexy, but what’s up with all this data and mind mapping?” Lighten up, Francis. The world needs both poets AND engineers.
Any self-respecting goal-a-holic knows that ROBUST data can radically improve goal achievement of any kind. To read that article, click here.
Whether it’s losing weight, building a network, or starting a company, success is the result of a series of small, incremental, repeated steps. And most great ideas tank because most people don’t take the time to break down their big idea into small pieces. In fact, if you feel paralyzed now about something you want to accomplish – chances are you haven’t broken it down into manageable pieces. But then there is a second critical step people don’t often do: Iterate.
Iteration: the repetition of a sequence of operations (loop) in order to get ever closer to the desired result. An iterative process should be convergent, i.e., it should come closer to the desired result as the number of iterations increases.
So, if you are wanting to get out of paralysis, or go from “good to great” ya gotta iterate!
The cool thing about this is shifting your mindset about goal achievement. We need to look at it as a loop. We start with what we want, execute, then analyze, then refine. That’s a completed loop. If you haven’t hit the target, we repeat this loop until we do. But the big take away? It’s not a straight line to the goal, but a series of small steps that occur in a “loop”. If you adopt this mindset, you will find yourself far more patient and far more optimistic about reaching your goal.
Punch line? Whether it’s getting out of paralysis or going from “good to great”, ya gotta iterate!
